Vegan Replacement For Cottage Cheese

Ingredients that are similar in taste to fresh cheese spreads are also starting to be available in supermarkets.

Among the Vegan Alternatives to Prepare Cottage Cheese Substitute:

  • Malted yeast

This is in the form of sprinkles that is tamed: it is common that we are a little confused when we taste it for the first time but that we then develop an appetite for its particular taste.

In culinary preparations (in particular sauces, gratins, spreads, and vegan pastries), its unique taste advantageously replaces cheese flavors.

Malted yeast is available in vegan grocery stores and organic food stores, sometimes in bulk.

As with soy milk, the taste can differ greatly from one brand to another, do not hesitate to test several to find your favorite!

  • Lacto-fermented tofu

Tender and tasty has a texture that resembles that of feta. It can be tasted as it is or be cooked (seasoned and transformed into a spread, in marinated cubes…).

It is available in vegan grocery stores and organic food stores.

  • Vegan milks

Many vegan “milks” are available in supermarkets, neighborhood shops, and specialized stores (organic stores, vegan shops ).

According to the brands, the same type of “milk” will have a different flavor: do not hesitate to test several to determine your favorite. You will easily find:

1- Soy milk is the most widely used in mass retailing, and it may also be the one that tastes the most from one brand to another. It is suitable for all Vegan Cottage Cheese Recipe preparations. It also allows, for pastry, to obtain the same textures.

Watch closely when it is on fire: it can form a skin on the surface and it can overflow, just like cow’s milk!

Soy milk curdles when you add vinegar or lemon juice: this sour-tasting preparation can be used in certain recipes where buttermilk is used (200 ml of soy milk + 1 tablespoon of juice lemon or vinegar, let stand for a few minutes) .

Soy milk can also be used as a base for making homemade yogurt.

2- Oat milk is also versatile, its mild flavor and texture similar to that of skimmed milk or less thick.

3- Rice milk has a thinner texture, sweet flavor (nature). Rice milk is frequently incorporated with a combination of other vegan ingredients (rice-spelled-hazelnut, rice-coconut, rice-quinoa-coconut, rice-chestnut-almond, rice-buckwheat, etc.) mixes, which adds smoothness to texture.

4- Almond milk and hazelnut milk: the almond milk is part of the culinary tradition, including French, it was a very common practice in the Middle Ages.

The gourmet flavor of these two kinds of milk lends itself particularly well to the preparation of desserts. Also to be enjoyed as is, a real delight!

Many other varieties of vegan milk are also widespread, mainly made from grains ( millet, barley, buckwheat, Khorasan Kamut wheat) and similar (quinoa) or oilseeds (chestnut, hemp, coconut, etc.). Each has a particular flavor.

Some kinds of vegan are sweetened, sometimes with cane sugar or fruit juice (in particular rice milk and kinds of vegan milk are enriched with calcium).
